The 23rd edition of the men's FIFA World Cup will be the largest in history, featuring 104 matches played over 39 days. 

  • Dates: June 11 – July 19, 2026.
  • Co-Hosts: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
  • Expansion: The field has grown from 32 to 48 teams, divided into 12 groups of four.
  • Key Matches:
  • Opening Match: June 11, 2026, at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.
  • Final: July 19, 2026, at New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium).

The traditional European club season will conclude in May to allow players to join their national teams by the May 25 release deadline.

League Schedules & Calendar Changes

  • European Leagues: The 2025–26 Premier League and other top divisions will conclude on May 24, 2026.
  • MLS 2026: The season began on February 21 and will run through November 7. It includes a mandatory six-week break (May 25 – July 16) for the World Cup.
  • New International Calendar: Starting in 2026, FIFA has merged the September and October international breaks into a single 16-day, four-match window starting in late September.

  • FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup: Hosted by Poland from September 5 – September 27, 2026.
  • FIFA U-17 World Cup: The now-annual 48-team tournament returns to Qatar.
  • FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup: Hosted by Morocco.
